The Story of 'Hotel Okura – The South Wing'

A vibrant time capsule of texture and tone. This piece captures a quiet corner of the South Wing, unchanged from its 1972 debut until the moment of its demolition. While the world focused on the hotel’s grand public spaces, I found myself drawn to the intimate geometry of this hallway, the rhythmic clash of the floral wallpaper against the patterned pink carpet and that single, "camouflaged" brass light switch. It is a study of the thousands of invisible moments that define a building: the generations of staff walking these corridors and the quiet maintenance of a fading era. Captured on 35mm film, this photograph preserves the rich, nostalgic palette of a Tokyo icon, offering a final look at the intricate details that made the Okura feel like home to so many before it was lost to time.
